Cuban Cigars BANDS OF DISTINCTION A Havana would seem naked without its familiar band. How they first came about makes an interesting historical footnote. It seems that around the middle of the last century some aristocratic Havana smokers complained that the cigars were ruining their white gloves. They found themselves in something of a quandary, not being prepared to give up either the cigars or the white gloves. The cigarmaster; Gustavo Bock, is usuallly given the credit for coming up with the solution to the problem. Namely a plain white Anillo, or paper band, strategically located where noble fingers gripped the cigar.
